Fat Tuesday Kloof

In an effort to assist the Hillcrest Aids Centre in their fundraising and in creating a festive atmosphere we have decided to yarn bomb two of the trees on our campus. Yarn bombing is not as one would image, bombing trees with balls of yarn, but rather covering the tree with knitted or crocheted squares to form a colourful blanket.

Hillcrest Aids Centre pay people in the community to knit and crochet these squares and are trying to get more Christmas dinners on the table this year by attempting to cover their big tree with as many squares as possible.

Fat Tuesday's position in all this is to be a depot for donations of wool (nice festive colours), needles, squares and money. Our bucket is at the door so please bring all you have to spare. Your donations will go to either our tree or theirs. It's immaterial really as all the proceeds go to the men and women creating the squares.

 

The store is closed for Stock Take on Monday 27 February, Tuesday 28 February and Wednesday 29 February 2012. The gallery is open as usual.

Join us as we open our exhibition "in celebration"hosting the artwork of 16 artists. Drawing, painting, design and photography will share the walls. Bellevue Cafe will be serving Jambalaya, Gumbo and other Cajun delights. There is a cash bar, a photo booth, The South Jersey Pom Poms and fire dancers, jugglers......this is bound to be the most fun you'll have this year!

We had a fabulous day with Tina Bester yesterday. She came to sign her newest book "Celebrate" and meet our wonderful customers. Melany made the eats from recipes in Tina's book and Xavier took the photographs.

Just arrived from the UK - Roger la Borde Jubilee Tea Towels and Aprons. we just love the quality and vibrant colour.

 Because Christmas is around the corner we have lots of new stock arriving every day.
 The favourite at the moment just has to be these boxers. They are for meant for men but with   such fabulous designs the ladies are wearing them too as sleep shorts.

They come in a beautiful box with a padded lid that compliments the shorts inside.

We have just received fabulous new clothing designs from Colleen Eitzen, Big Blue, Living Life and Josephine. Also gorgeous woollen wraps in a very unusual colour "rabbit" from Amanda Laird Cherry.......so so exciting! Here's a taste of what to expect.

       

I·found the most delightful books during my visit to the US earlier this year. They're called Laughing Elephant·from Green Tiger Press·

The books are shaped, vintage replicas of the books my mother had as a child. I seem to remember the images in some of them too though. The titles we have in stock are Little Red Riding Hood, Mother Goose, The Three Bears, Hansel and Gretel, The Town Mouse and the Country Mouse and the Three Little Kittens. They are selling at R95 each but I only have 6 of each title.

You cannot resist the Ballet Paper Dolls. There are 4 dolls, each with cut out ballet outfits and they come in a stand up cardboard backdrop. These sell for R120 and I have 10 sets in stock.
